Key Objectives

  •  Product Innovation – To lead the development of all formulations and manage the processes and procedures to ensure innovations are developed within acceptable timeframes, meets agreed project briefs and are on budget. Experienced in formulating the personal care arena, including bath & body, skin care, hair care and colour cosmetics


  • Line Management - To provide leadership and direction to the UK and Far East formulation development teams


  • Product Compliance – To ensure that SLG products are technically robust and conform to regulatory, company and customer requirements, with overall responsibility for the performance of formulations.


  • Customer & Supplier Support – To provide strong technical support to both internal and external customers and to develop strong working relationships with suppliers both in the UK and internationally.


Key Tasks


  • The development of innovative products in compliance with all SLG, customer and industry standards and practices in regulatory compliance (REACH) and raw material policies.


  • To support the company’s supplier base in the UK and internationally.


  • To train and mentor the R&D and NPD teams with a focus on increasing knowledge and expertise.


  • To ensure that product testing protocols reflect customer and regulatory requirements and meet industry best practice and products are fully tested and compliant


  • To manage the laboratory, laboratory validation and the formulation testing programme.


  • To take a lead role in the management of technical and supplier manufacturing issues and deliver creative and resourceful solutions


  • To lead and develop the technical interface between SLG and its customers and suppliers


  • To manage the development of a formulation database and to establish a formulation library which supports the development of products at various price points.


  • To ensure that samples, information, reports and documents are available at agreed key milestones and at the agreed quality level.


  • Drive the streamlining of processes within the R&D team and its integration into the general business processes.


Qualifications & Experience Requirements:


  • Educated to Degree Level in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacy or other relevant scientific discipline.
  • Previous experience in a Technical leadership role with line management / leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in cosmetic formulation development and innovation, with a good understanding of regulatory compliance and manufacturing processes.
